Lately my sister, who is also on ebt, has been running low on ebt by week3 of 4. She has had to supplement her snap by food donations. When I was reading about food stamps online I came across a government statistic fact that claims MANY people using ebt run out by the third week of their benefits for the month. I told my sister that she needs to start shopping around the 3rd and 4th week of the month, save her funds until then, so she retains a balance on her ebt card account and then she can take advantage of the end of month deals and specials. What occurred to me was that if you fall into the spending cycle its hard to break out of it. any thoughts?? |

omg this happens to us more often since they sliced our benefits in November. Three times we went to the food donations at church. its terrible  |

You all need to prioritize on your purchases, use coupons and specials and cook from scratch. If your running low by the second or third week thats on you partially. Buy in bulk when possible.

You need to stick to a budget. Divide your snap money by 4 and that's how much you can spend each week.

I recommend making some of your purchases in bulk to help lower overall costs each month. If milk is an issue in terms of costs, buy bulk powdered milk for about $5-$15.
If eggs are a cost issue, buy the 5 dozen egg crates for around $7-$10
Bacon buy in 2,3 or 4lb packages.
Cheese buy in bulk too.
Sugar you can get 25lb bag for $11 at Walmart.
Flour buy in 5-20lb lots
Rice you can get upto 100lb bags at certain stores, 10-25lb bags at most stores.
Its about personal control when you shop and planning ahead. Remember to use coupons and look for deals. Walmart matches the competitions prices, you just have to have proof of the other stores listed price(s).
You can make $40 a month in snap cash last you, or at least reduce your food poverty that month. Just make smarter buying choices. And always make a list before you go shopping and STICK to it.
