Hello all,
I am new here so please bear with me.
I will try to keep this post short, detailed and to the point.
My sister currently receives SNAP benefits (Illinois Link Card) for food. She has for several years now. She lives at the same residence as I do. We were caregivers for our aging parents, both now deceased. She is 72 and currently her only income is Social Security which is not that much. I am 66 and receive Social Security too, albeit just a small amount more than her.
For both of us, Social Security is the ONLY monthly income. The nice guy that I am, I pay most of the ultilities as well as some other bills. My SS income just barely covers this. Sadly, my sister a selfish/self-centered type, and seldom, if ever purchases any food items for me i.e., that we both can share. We basically don't eat the same food nor like what the other one eats regularly. I cook for myself and she can not cook.
To aleviate this [continuing] problem, I've been wondering if I can apply for my own SNAP card (for food)? She thinks if I do that may/could not only end in a refusal of my application but also possibly affect her benefits, i.e., loss of her Illinois Link Card. Naturally, I wouldn't want that to happen, though I also wouldn't want an opportunity for me to get benefits to slip by/away.
Thanks for reading this and for any/all replies.
