I am tired of dealing with subtle, rude cashiers that give me a dirty look when I go to pay for the food at checkout and they ask "debit or credit" and I respond with "No, ebt." and then I get the brush-off. It doesn't happen a lot but lately I seem to be getting cashiers that just have an attitude when I pay using snap.
Yet again this happened last night and its annoying. What I really want to ask this lady last night, but refrained, was how she ISN'T on food stanps too seeing how her job isn't all that more lucrative than mine, (minimum wage area).
What happened was that I bought $1.89 package of flour tortillas and that was it. Maybe she didn't like that I used my ebt in that manner? but I see that as NOT being a frivolous purchase. She gave me this look: aka the "f.u." look.
I just kinda stared back at her with the same look. Maybe that store-location doesn't see many snap users walk thru their doors but they certainly hang the 'SNAP ACCEPTED HERE' signs ad posters.
What do people here do when they run into lovely store workers like this? Do you guys ever say anything or call them our for their snooty looks?
I am getting to the point where refraining from saying anything is becoming more and more difficult. It was a 1.89 pack of tortilla. OOOOOOOOhhh im making soft roll ups and tacos, I epitomize the billionaire life style with those. lol... I guess rolling my eyes has the best non-verbal attack I can do. but still, these people need to lighten up and relax.. $1.89 isn't a bs buy.

In-experienced sales people can ruin a shopping day. If you feel singled-out speak up and say something to management at the store and also contact that stores district manager. You'd be surprised how much a food store/chains business is made up from ebt-food stamps sales. Managers tend to see the bigger picture than that of a cashier. A smart manager will work to stop cashiers from driving away business.
In the future reach out and speak up and you'd be surprised at the way businesses respond when they see you have purchasing power every month!

Try shopping at stores that are ebt friendly.

Try shopping at stores that are ebt friendly. It depends entirely upon the person working the register ringing up stuff. If it seems to happen everytime at a particular store you could always try contacting your states snap people and report the location. I've had this same issue the O.P. is talking about and a friendly talk with a manager always helped. Then again I try my hardest to get healthy foods and not crap so usually I don't get dirty looks but it happens time to time. I wonder what the O.P. has bought that *might* have earned him/her a dirty look, if it was indeed something they had in their cart.
If anything do self checkout if your having issues or are embarrassed about using free government aid.
