I understand the occasional frivolous purchase. Yes you mostly need to make it last, but being perpetually poor with nothing nice is incredibly depressing and dehumanizing. Sometimes you splurge for steaks, you work hard, you deserve nice things sometimes too. Sometimes food splurges are the only nice things you can get. if you splurge the right way: waiting for deals, using coupons, bogo's; you can treat yourself reasonably well on a tight budget. Like after Halloween and other holidays you can get cheap candy at the dollar shops. Meats like steak are the same deal, plus the supermarkets usually have discounted deals on meats that need to be sold and cooked that day.
Be flexible on your appetite and supermarkets will reward you.

ice? That wouldnt be a bad purchase if you lived in Arizona or Death Valley during summertime. Maybe a dumb purchase if you live in Nome Alaska in the dark months. How about gourmet cheesecake? or food made in other countries? it's hard to define what a bad purchase is or what one looks like, to each their own. for myself i think a outrageous purchase is one that jepaordizes you food budget.

Heres something dumb I have bought using SNAP. steaks from the grocery store as they are a total rip off in price and taste.
Now I either go to a butcher by me that takes ebt or when the door2door meat suppliers come by with sleeves of filet steaks in the big refridge trucks. Some of them are authorized to take ebt-snap so I can get TOPQUALITY cuts of meat, WAY cheaper than at the store. I freeze them and they are good for a while. This meat melts away when eaten, it's so much better than any super market and is cheaper. I got 8 round Filet mignon's for $60. These easily sell for double-to-triple that at most retail outlets. That's enough red meat for me for 2 months, so yes it's a great deal for my ebt dollar

I guess its a good deal if you trust the source you r buying from
