I hear you Ses...you DO NOT want to find yourself on the street (as I am).
The key to exiting homelessness is INCOME. But it appears now that you need networking, to know people who can pave your way into a paying position. A person cannot JUST "go out and get a job". Employers now hold all of the cards and have now become VERY particular; a person needs to fit within certain favorable social demographics. OR be skilled as an entrepreneur.
That is a dead-on analysis of the issue.

Hello. I just lost all my favorites on my computer and found this forum while trying to re-locate favorites. I would like to join you, for several reasons: I have been on food stamps before, but am not at this time. (Full disclosure.) I have also worked for the food stamps/welfare department for 20 years, been retired for 12. I love to cook. I've been doing it seriously since I was 13, and I'm 71 now. Lots of recipes, lots of experience. I like to save money--my husband and I raised 2 daughters. One was killed in a boating accident at age 42, almost 10 years ago. The other is 50, and has my only grandchild, who is 22, lives with a roommate in Buffalo NY, and just graduated from Univ. Buffalo in May. She is looking for a job now, and I am assisting in supporting her. Her mother is on SS disability, and her step-father is currently on Workman's Comp for work injury. My husband and I are both retired. While I love sharing what I know already, I don't pretend to know everything, and I love trying new recipes. Marcia (I live outside Buffalo NY in a small town on the Erie Canal.) Does her mother who is on SS Disabiity also take part in food stamps? i pretty sure she qualifies, no?

Hi...am Demetri, a homeless person in Los Angeles.
Have SNAP and GR...might be dead now without them. Certainly am interested in ANY ways to make them go further and/or what's available as a path to get off the street. This has proven so far to be a "rock and hard place" lifestyle. What social services do you use? Are you a former military service member of the US? Do you take advantage of food kitchens? also and im just curious, how did you post online being homeless?
